NWCA to Host RDCO All Candidates Forum

Following our AGM, the NWCA will be hosting an all candidates forum to ask questions and hear from all three candidates on the ballot for RDCO Director of Electoral West. Get to know the candidates, their priorities, and how they intend to represent the area.
Residents will have an opportunity to write questions once they arrive at Killiney Beach Hall. The forum will be moderated. You may want to write a question or two in advance to submit to greeters at the door.

Wayne Carson (Incumbent)
Wayne Carson is a longtime Killiney Beach resident, former North Westside Fire/Rescue Chief and former Class A Fire Warden with the BC Forest Service who is running for another term as Electoral Area West Director. He is running to advance the North Westside governance process through a third and final study, move the Short-Term Rental Policy from its pilot stage to permanent RDCO policy with community-requested additions, and address the proposed Killiney Beach/Westshore water project. His priorities are North Westside governance, FireSmart structural sprinkler legislation, overseeing the STR policy, and retiring the water project.

Ron Dewhurst
Ron Dewhurst is an RDCO West Electoral Area resident with more than 40 years of experience in technology and business development, including work in telecommunications, ecological development and rainforest conservation, who is running for Electoral Area West Director. He says his approach is based on building cooperation among diverse groups, applying business discipline to community issues, and bringing residents into the decision-making process. His three platform priorities are regional growth, climate risk and service capacity through partnerships with residents and other stakeholders.

Steve Gilroy
Steven Gilroy is a Westside resident since 2006, self-employed business owner, local landlord and consultant for non-profit associations who is running for Electoral Area West Director. He says his experience working with local, provincial, federal and Indigenous governments, including through the WFN Advisory Council, has prepared him to advocate for the diverse communities across the Westside. His three priorities are infrastructure reliability, including local water systems, regional parks and community infrastructure; emergency management, including wildfire mitigation and emergency response; and fiscal transparency to ensure rural taxpayer dollars are spent efficiently and responsibly.
