RDCO October Municipal Election 2026

RDCO will hold it's municipal election on Oct 17.  

Unlike provincial elections, local elections are not administered by a single organization. Instead, each local government is responsible for conducting its own election. The RDCO holds general local elections every four years to elect regional district directors for the electoral areas.

In our area, Electoral West, there are 2 positions on the ballot: 

Regional Director Electoral District West and School Board Trustee.  

If you don't live full time in the area but own property here make sure you read our non-resident property electors explained in this newsletter.

There are at least 2 people that have filed papers for Regional Director for our Electoral West district. This means that there will be an election for the first time since 2018 for that position.

The polls open 8:00AM to 8:00PM on all voting days at Killiney Beach Hall. 

Advance voting is on Wednesday Oct 7 and Wednesday Oct 14. 

General voting day is  Saturday Oct 17. 

How to Secure Mail In Ballot

If you will be away on those days, you can still vote by Mail.  

You can request a mail-in ballot.  It must be returned to the RDCO office on KLO Rd by 4:00 pm Oct 16. that means in the hands of election officials, not just postmarked.

You will need to provide:

• your name

• your address

• whether you are registering as a resident elector or non-resident property elector

Non-Property Electors Explained

So what does a non-resident property elector mean?  

Do you own property in our area but live elsewhere?  

If you live in BC, you may meet the requirements to vote here as well as your regular home location.  Here are the requirements for a non-resident property elector as outlined by the BC government. 

When a person lives in one jurisdiction and owns property in one or more other jurisdictions, they may vote once in each of the other jurisdictions where they own property - as long as they meet the voter eligibility requirements.

A non-resident property elector must:

• Be 18 years of age or older when they register to vote, or 18 years or older on general voting day

• Be a Canadian citizen

• Have been a resident of B. C. for at least six months immediately before they register to vote

• Be the registered owner of real property in the jurisdiction where they intend to vote for at least 30 days immediately before they register to vote 

• Not be disqualified under the Local Government Act, or any other enactment from voting in local elections or be otherwise disqualified by law

  
  

Only one person is eligible to vote as the non-resident property elector for that property when a person owns a property with one or more other individuals. The owner entitled to vote must be designated, in writing, by the majority of the property owners.

A person cannot vote on behalf of a corporation, or as a non-resident property elector, based on a property owned wholly or in part by a corporation.
